There are two types of glass cloth in China: alkali-free and medium-alkali. Most of the foreign countries only produce alkali-free glass cloth. Glass cloth is mainly used to produce various electrical insulating laminates, printed circuit boards, various vehicle bodies, storage tanks, boats and molds, etc. Medium alkali glass cloth is mainly used in the production of coated packaging fabrics and in the field of corrosion resistance. The properties of the fabric are determined by fiber properties, warp and weft density. The warp and weft density is determined by the yarn structure and texture, and also determines the physical properties of the fabric, such as weight, thickness and breaking strength. There are mainly five kinds of texture of glass cloth: plain, twill, satin, rib and mat.
The glass ribbon is divided into a woven side belt and a non-woven side belt (flash belt), and the main texture is plain. Glass ribbons are often used to make high-strength, dielectric-good electrical equipment components.
The unidirectional fabric is a four-striped or long-satin fabric woven from coarse warp yarns and fine weft yarns. It is characterized by high strength in the warp main direction.
The three-dimensional fabric is relative to flat fabric, and its structure has been developed to three dimensions, so the composite material with the reinforcement has good integrity and profiling, which greatly improves the interlaminar shear strength and damage resistance of the composite. It was first used in aerospace, aviation, weapons, ships and other sections, and has now expanded to the automotive, sports equipment, medical equipment etc. There are five main categories: woven three-dimensional fabrics, knitted three-dimensional fabrics, orthogonal and non-orthogonal nonwoven three-dimensional fabrics, three-dimensional woven fabrics, and other forms of three-dimensional fabrics. The shape of the three-dimensional fabric has a block shape, a column shape, a tubular shape, a hollow truncated cone, and a variable thickness profiled section.
The shape of the profiled fabric is very similar to the shape of the article it is to be reinforced and must be woven on a special weaving machine.
The grooved fabric is a fabric composed of two parallel fabrics joined by longitudinal vertical strips, and the cross-sectional shape may be triangular or rectangular.
Glass Stitched Fabric
Fiberglass stitched fabrics, also known as knitted or woven mat, differ from ordinary fabrics as well as common mats. The most typical stitch-bonded fabric is a layer of warp yarns which are overlapped with a layer of weft yarns, and the warp yarns and the weft yarns are woven together into a fabric by stitching. The advantages of the stitch-knitted fabric are: increasing the tensile strength of the FRP laminated product, the delamination strength under the tension and the bending strength, reducing the weight of the FRP product, to smooth the surface of the FRP surface, to simplify the hand lay-up operation and improve labor productivity.
